Amino Acids In Matcha Green Tea Powder

L-Theanine is almost exclusively found in the green tea plant Camellia Sinensis. It is an amino acid of similar structure to glutamine and acts on the brain following consumption.

L-Theanine is not considered to be an essential part of human dietary needs but has been shown both subjectively and objectively to be an aid for relaxation, increasing energy and focus and heightening the ability to deal with stress. A key property of L-Theanine is that it acts in synergy with the caffeine present in matcha to alleviate the jitters and edginess usually associated with caffeine consumption.

L-Theanine has been used by Buddhist Monks for centuries for use in meditation. Studies have shown that the compound significantly increases the production of alpha brain waves. When the brain is in the alpha state the body experiences less stress and more clarity of thought. Alpha waves also allow for more creativity and problem solving skills. Matcha could clear the athlete or high performers mind whilst inducing a relaxed and stress free state. Relaxation and focus is imperative for high performance be it on the sports field, in the gym or in the boardroom. The ability to induce a state of mind in which problem solving comes easy would be beneficial to anybody let alone a top level athlete or high performer.
